JASMINE LOSES COMPOSURE AND HOPE FOR A MOMENT, THEN SHOCKS ALL
BY SURVIVING THE CUT, MAKING IT TO THE FINAL 3 ON AMERICAN IDOL 3RD ANNUAL NATIONAL TELEVISION SINGING CONTEST SHOW

Jasmine Trias, 17, became Hawaii's newest celebrity when she auditioned among 70,000 other Americans and now is among the final 3 survivors in the weekly grueling singing performance contest
on American Idol. The popular TV show has around 25-30 million viewers each week. Viewers call in and register their weekly vote for their favorite candidate for the coveted title of "American Idol." The winner has a guaranteed singing recording contract and has meant millions of dollars for the winner each year.  Jas is a senior soon to graduate from Maryknoll High School of Honolulu.  Here she broke down after cruel comments by the weekly judges that give their subjective opinions on the performances.  However their opinion doesn't count but attempts to influence "America's" vote. Irregardless whether she wins or not, the finalists are all usually setup for promising and lucrative singing careers as their appearance and voice is 'branded' nationally with multiple national TV exposure.  As of today Jas is one of the final three among 'winners.'  Go Jasmine!  Besides Trias, Camille Velasco of Maui, Hawaii, made it into the final 10 and is currently pursuing offers for modeling and singing in California.  This and last year's 2nd American Idol program has been a staple of our family's entertainment at home and help to bond us together in a common interest and hope, this time for our very own local girl.  I personally feel she's walking and breathing "Aloha Spirit" and a refreshing image and persona in these troubled times.   - Pygoya, March 13, 2004
