Laila Twigg-Smith - A daughter of an ambassador to Vienna, Twigg-Smith was born in Rega, Latvia. "She was an artist and visionary whose lively spirit and incredible eye were apparent in everything she did - from the exhibitons she curated at the Contempoary Arts Center (Honolulu), to the development of her private art collection, to the founding and vitality of the museum," said Georgianna Lagoria, director of The Contemporary Museum. She was 53 when she passed away March 25, 1998 in New York City. - from The Honolulu Advertiser
