Pine Grove Ranch, Alberta, Canada

Ansgard Thomson

Where I live:

I live on a ranch in Alberta, Canada in the County of Woodlands. Our post office is in Fort Assiniboine 8 miles away, only 2 miles on gravel road, the rest is paved. Fort Assiniboine is the second oldest place in Alberta in 1823 a fort was built by the Hudson Bay Company under the direction of Governor Simpson .

Today the place is a very small hamlet, but it has a K to Grade 12 school and a museum that tells its story of its beginning and of the people who settled in this area north of the Athabasca River, when only a ferry could take them there. The bridge was only built in the 1950 to take the natural resources out and finally now to bring dangerous wastes back. The area is farming, lumber industries and opening to the oil industries in the Swan Hills were people find work.

My pictures shows you the isolated area I live in, we have named Pine Grove Ranch. We have a lake, the geese and ducks sometimes swans come and visit. Wild life will wander in unexpected-  moose, deer, bear, cougar, lynx and wolves . The colorful wild fruit and flowers are my subjects. Cows and horses also have their home here . Hope this gives a feeling where I live .
